- Introduction
An introduction is given by the game leader, usually the teacher. Background of the live-crime is the story, which is told by newspaper articles in the student’s notebook. The participants take on the roles of the actors in the murder case. All actors are given the initial situation with an overview of the actors involved and the rules of the game, as well as their role descriptions. The initial situation and the rules of the game are explained to all participants together. The goal is to solve the Martin Fuchs murder case. - Role assignment
Subsequently, the roles are distributed. The roles can be assigned according to interest, by lot or by the game leader. A successful setting
makes it easier for the participants to “grow into” their roles. Appropriate clothing, such as jackets, caps, ties and name tags make it easier for the participants to play more easily identifiable in their role. Setting and gameplay: After the roles have been assigned, the groups move to their rooms or group tables. The press gets pens, paper, Eddings, glue, scissors, a pin board with pins or a board with magnets. The association of large industrialists and the purchasing manager Markus Wiese get play money. They do not have to adhere exactly to this equipment but the more realistic the environment, the stronger the emotional experience.
3. Familiarization phase
The groups now have twenty minutes to find each other in their group, assign roles, give themselves a name, and familiarize themselves with the game materials. They think about what their goals are, what potential allies or opponents, and what strategies they will use. The groups must not make contact with other groups during this familiarization phase, Questions to the game leader may be asked at any time. The players
are required to follow the guidelines on the role cards, but they are completely free to add further factual information and rumors, supporters, etc.
4. Game phase
The remaining members of the board of the Lukulli restaurant chain have invited for Martin Fuchs. They are the hosts. The cooks have prepared a sustainable buffet for the funeral service, which the guests (Lukulli employees as well as partner companies and relatives) may consume during the live may consume. Various role descriptions contain clues that can put the criminal police on the right track. Additional action cards are provided for this purpose, which the game leader (usually the teacher) hands to the CID and the press.
In the end, the CID should arrest Markus Wiese, the purchasing manager. This concludes the live crimi.
- Introduction
- Debriefing
In any case, there should be a short break between the end of the game and the evaluation, to make the break clear.
- Evaluation
- Communication analysis: The first step is to analyze the game. In turn each group may comment on what goals they pursued, with whom they cooperated well or poorly, with whom they worked well or poorly, and what they achieved. As a rule these rounds are very emotionally charged. Therefore, please make sure that there are no arguments that perpetuate the game. Always point out that the game is over and each group has its turn.
- Role relief: In a second step, the roles are relieved. Each participant is given the opportunity to say personally how he/she felt in the role, what went well and what went badly, and they should also say how they felt about the role and it should also be said what one’s own position is on the problem, in order to differentiate oneself. The participants put down their name tags and say aloud, “I am [name] again.” They spin around themselves once.
- Reality check: The third step is to consider together, whether and which parts of the game or the entire murder case were realistic.
- Discussion questions:
– How important is sustainability to companies today?
– What roles do investors/the profit motive play?
– Do other companies get squeezed when a company advertises sustainability?
advertises sustainability?
– How do the students see the future? Will sustainability play an increasingly
more important role?
- Discussion questions:
- Adaption for other target audiences
